Research-based guidance and tools to support high-quality preschool curriculum implementation
EdSolutions has partnered with the Gates Foundation to develop a suite of public resources that support state, district, and program leaders in strengthening curriculum guidance, selection, and implementation.
These resources build on the landmark 2024 National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) report, A New Vision for High-Quality Preschool Curriculum, which synthesizes decades of research and provides actionable guidance for improving early learning outcomes.
The 2024 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine report, A New Vision for High-Quality Preschool Curriculum, calls for a fundamental reimagining of preschool education for children ages 3-5. The report emphasizes that every child deserves joyful, engaging, safe, enriching, and affirming preschool experiences that foster holistic and healthy development and learning, and that curriculum—what and how children learn in a program—is a critical determinant of the quality and effectiveness of a preschool program.
The report recommends a five-year transition to evidence-based curricula that support whole child development, developed through collaborative, equity-driven processes with materials created in multiple languages from the outset.

There is no shortage of research on early childhood education, but much of it can be difficult to access or apply. This guide was created to make the findings of a major 2024 study from the National Academies of Sciences more usable for leaders in the field.
A Guide to High-Quality Preschool Curriculum is a companion to A New Vision for High-Quality Preschool Curriculum and was designed for state and program leaders, curriculum teams, and decision-makers working to improve outcomes for children ages 3 to 5. The guide helps leaders reflect on the study’s recommendations and use them to strengthen curriculum guidance, selection, and implementation at the state and program level.
We know the research landscape can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re balancing the daily demands of leading systems and serving students. If you know the insights are out there but need help finding, interpreting, or applying them, we can help.
